Comprehensive Declaration Sections:

• Purpose statement – Why the declaration is being made (visa, tax, insurance)
• Declaration of truth – Statement that all information is true and accurate

Common Categories of Dependents:

• Children under 18 – Including stepchildren and adopted children you support
• Adult children in education – University students or those in vocational training
• Disabled adult children – Who cannot work due to disability
• Elderly parents – Who you provide financial support to
• Spouse or civil partner – Who doesn't work or earns significantly less
• Unmarried partner – Long-term partner you financially support
• Other relatives – Siblings, grandparents, in-laws you support

Key Test for Dependency:

Generally, someone is considered financially dependent if they rely on you for more than 50% of their living costs. This includes housing, food, utilities, clothing, education, healthcare, and general living expenses. The dependency should be genuine and ongoing, not occasional gifts or temporary support.

Documents to Strengthen Your Declaration:

• Bank statements – Showing regular transfers to the dependent
• Bills in both names – Council tax, utilities, or shared accounts
• Proof of address – Showing you live together or your payments for their housing
• Receipts – For clothing, food, education, or medical expenses you've paid
• School/university letters – Confirming you pay fees or maintenance
• NHS registration – At the same address if applicable
• Travel bookings – Showing holidays together as evidence of relationship
• Photos together – Particularly for visa applications
• Tax returns – Showing you've claimed them as dependents
• Employment letters – Showing your income supports the dependent

For Visa Applications:

UK Visas & Immigration typically requires at least 6-12 months of evidence showing ongoing financial support. Bank statements and money transfer receipts are particularly important.

When Visa Applications Require Dependency Evidence:

• Adult Dependent Relative visa – Parents, grandparents, or other relatives requiring long-term care
• Family visa dependents – Children over 18 or other family members
• Settlement applications – Proving ongoing family relationships
